BMW Films Presents The Hire: Beat The Devil
Directed by Tony Scott
2002

Possibly my favorite of all the BMW Films series. Back then you can sign up on their website to receive the DVD for free, not sure if you can do that still. Anyways, it’s shot by Tony Scott (color grading, jumpcuts, freezeframes, explosions, you know) starring Clive Owen, Gary Oldman, Danny Trejo, a Marilyn Manson cameo, plus James Brown aka The Godfather of Soul aka The Hardest Working Man In Showbusiness aka James Fucking Brown. I mean this isn’t even Halloween related but Marilyn Manson and Gary Oldman playing the devil is close enough, no?

Seriously Danny Trejo is like the Mrs. Dash, or Nate Dogg of cinema. It’s like you don’t neccessarily need it, and it’s pretty much good as it is, but man you put some Mrs. Dash on it and you tell me it’s not party in your mouth. And when does Nate Dogg ever disappoint? It’s almost foolproof you get Nate to sing a hook and your shit is certified gold. Just ask Warren G, Snoop, Fabolous, hell even backpack dudes Pharoahe Monch and Mos Def got some help from Nate. And usually those songs in which he’s blessed his super cool vocal chords with, tend to become classics at that. Same goes for Danny Trejo. It’s hard to think of a film in which he’s appeared on that wasn’t slightly better just because he was in it.
