Not sure why everyone is hating on this movie so much. Personally I think it’s great someone’s bringing back 90’s cyberpunk movies. Seriously just imagine if Luc Besson directed this 15 years ago and you were watching it on VHS and it’ll be brilliant.
The Men Who Stare At Goats
Directed by Grant Heslov
Starring George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey
2009
Whoa. First of, I’m a fan of this book and its author Jon Ronson. His books are filled with quirky, witty, British humo(u)r and plus he also happens to be a documentary filmmaker. He recently directed Stanley Kubrick’s Boxes, which aired on the UK’s Channel 4 during their Stanley Kubrick week (where’s our Kubrick Week, America?) in which he visits Kubrick’s home in Hertfordshire and goes through his thousands of boxes of stuff. It’s a pretty amazing look at how meticulous Kubes was when making a film. There’s a segment where they show all the thousands of reference photographs he had just for a door in Eyes Wide Shut, then after going through every single one of them he ends up filming it on a set anyways. I love it.
Anyways, I read that George Clooney bought the rights to this book a while back and more or less forgot all about it until seeing this trailer. No idea that Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor, and Kevin Spacey are going to be in it as well. Besides McGregor’s questionable American accent, it looks pretty good and sort of nails the quirky conspiracy theory feel the book has. That and it looks like Jeff Bridges is playing The Dude again plus they play Boston’s “More Than A Feeling” in the trailer. Can’t wait.

Director: Quentin Tarantino

“Well, if this is it old boy, I hope you don’t mind if I go out speaking the Kings.”
SIDENOTE: I was going to, probably will still, write a review on this film sometime soon. Planning on starting up a movie blog where I’ll chronicle a film every other day or so, writing reviews and posting other otherwise nerdy information that’s probably only interesting to myself. Verdict though, I liked it. But felt as if there were chunks missing. I’m hoping it’s a lot like Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven director’s cut where all the missing pieces fell back into place and turned out something epic. Regardless, some really great scenes with top-notch dialogue, some great acting (best movie villain in quite a long time I might add), and overall pretty entertaining. No masterpiece though.
P.S. - I absolutely hate Eli Roth. Casting him is like casting Andrew “Dice” Clay as Han Solo. I know Tarantino and P.T. Anderson love this guy for I’m not quite sure, Cabin Fever and Hostel I guess? But I can not stand him. I will say the guy is good at directing shorts (Thanksgiving fake trailer and Nation’s Pride).
