Ideas Illustrated is a new quarterly publication from YCN celebrating new creative talent and ideas. A visually loaded showcase sits alongside stimulating, and specially commissioned, editorial pertinent to each issue’s theme (here - Money).

84 printed pages on (cover) 350gsm Regency Gloss and (text) 150gsm Challenger Offset. Money Issue cover foiled and die-cut. Printed by Stones.

what in tarnation was grizzly bear thinking when they sold a song for a super bowl commercial? truly, the wonderful piano plunks on two weeks will never sound as innocent. (although, on the plus side, i’ll forever associate drew brees with grizzly bear piano plunks). volkswagen should know that if you feature stevie wonder punching someone in your ad, you might as well just play a stevie wonder song. and plus they should have just quit while they were ahead with that nick drake ad.

Yea indie music has totally jumped the shark. What is up with Arcade Fire being the official theme song of the NFL now??? Carles was right, indie is dead. Long live ternative music!

EDIT: k so apparently Arcade Fire is donating all proceeds towards Haiti…you got me there you clever Canucks you. Not a bad move.

Just finished this Little Dragon gig poster. They’re from Gothenburg, Sweden and do electronic music similar to Bjork/Portishead/The Knife/Lykke Li…mixed with like funk/jazz/soul…by way of a Japanese lead singer. And it’s great. They are also in the new Gorillaz album coming out so I hope they get all the praise they deserve.

Little Dragon will be playing SXSW and other US tour dates HERE.

It’s pretty lame but one of my regrets in life is having not been a part of these Nickelodeon game shows as a kid. Growing up in Orlando they filmed a lot of the shows in Universal Studios back when they still had Nickelodeon Studios with the green gack fountain outside. Now that building looks totally different and is where they currently hold Blue Man Group shows. How times have a-changed.

As a child, I recall watching TV and seeing people wearing red and blue jumpsuits sliding down from a giant mouth and diving into a giant ice cream sundae just to grab an orange flag and thought: why can’t my family be doing this??? Why can’t I get to play Sonic the Hedgehog for points and then stand in front of a greenscreen and duck imaginary floating Medusa heads?! When will I get to put on moon shoes and pop balloons filled with SHAVING CREAM???

It would have been rad to don a Blue Barracudas t-shirt and assemble the shit out of the shrine of the Silver Monkey. Maybe even have met Melissa Joan Hart or Cuba Gooding’s brother. Could’ve watched Kenan Thompson before he became “the token” on SNL, or Kel Mitchell before he starred in the vastly underrated Mystery Men.

Oh all the childhood memories that could have been.

On hindsight, I guess I never bugged my parents enough. Alas the Aggro Crag, we were not meant to be.
